Without you we could not survive and help the thousands in need around Dallas. Take a moment to read the following excerpt from our 2001 Annual Report to get a feeling for our needs and how your donations help. Then take a moment and scroll through a partial list of our donors and volunteers who make it all possible. Think about joining them as a donor, it's good for the heart!
After Sept. 11th, client applications for rent, mortgage, food and utility assistance escalated 200%, financial contributions have never been enough; however, donations decreased 200%. The contributions of food from the Teamsters Union, Mrs. Ruth Collins Altshuler and Cornerstone Church helped to feed the multitudes who we would not have been able to feed. Through all the traumatic experiences during the year, sixty two (62) Thanksgiving baskets were given; six hundred and eighteen applications were received for Christmas gifts and toys. Of that number 609 families or 3,384 children and teenagers were served. Five hundred and nine (509) families were given food baskets for Christmas or 1,898 individuals were fed.
The total annual services were 26,639 to 7,002 individuals. This is a miracle. From an agency with less than minimum funds serving the lest of God's people, 2001 was an awesome year.
Mr. James Jenson of New York City was sent like an angel, unknown and unexpected, requested a meeting with our board chairperson and me. He left behind a new 15 passenger van, funds for the insurance and other operational bills during the season that the board of directors and I felt that tornados had wrecked us and the foundation. We knew that if God did not help us, we would drown. God sent Mr. Jenson to the rescue. Where there was no hope for Christmas gifts, God sent the Postal workers and many unexpected donors and allowed the Marines Toys for Tots program to contribute. Mr. Charles Terrell made the first contribution of 30 bicycles. "Whoso stopped his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard" Proverbs 21:13.
The success of the Bethlehem Foundation's service completion of year 2001 was comprised of many people, churches, The Dallas Morning Charities, organizations providing Hope for the less fortunate.
